GIM AND THE CONTINUUM MODEL
Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) allows individuals to deepen their understanding of their inner world through music listening experiences in a safe and nourishing environment. The continuum model offers a variety of receptive interventions to address particular therapeutic needs at different points in the therapy. Sessions 1.5 hours and offer a space for verbal reflection and musical experiences.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The continuum model offers a choice of interventions, including Music and Imagery (MI) and Guided Imagery and Music (GIM).
MI experiences encourage stronger connections with inner strengths or areas of tension and difficulty. The interventions use collaboratively chosen music to encourage deepening and staying with a given experience, in order to invite increased understanding. The processing is further supported through explorative drawings.
GIM encourages expansive exploration on a deeper level and is suitable for clients who are fairly resourced and connected to their inner world. The therapist guides the client into a deep state of relaxation in preparation for listening to a specifically chosen programme of music. The therapist guides the client supportively during the music listening. The music used in GIM invites exploration and may lead to visual imagery, sensory experiences and can bring up feelings and memories.
